DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Hydraulics Engineering is responsible to lead the hydraulics engineering organization and improve the competitiveness of the hydraulics product line.  The Director has responsibility for the design, development, validation and support of hydraulic product lines for flight control and industrial control. The position reports to the Group President and the Director is relied upon to provide a high level of technical and organizational leadership and product expertise in guiding design efforts, customer interactions, and other engineering related matters such as quality problem solving. The Director is accountable for participating in and executing to strategic product line direction, and providing management leadership for hydraulics engineering.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the creation of a robust design culture by directing systemic improvements within the hydraulics engineering organization.
  • Understand competitive hydraulic products, and provide valuable input to product and technology roadmaps in close collaboration with Marketing and R&D.
  • Drive Independent R&D activity in support of aircraft systems strategy, and long term market needs as defined on Technology Roadmaps driven by customers and market trends.
  • Accountable to ensure that appropriate design standards are created, improved and maintained that result in high quality and compliant products.
  • Participate in strategic planning related to hydraulic products, processes and infrastructure required within the business group.
  • Accountable for assigned phases of engineering within the Product Life Cycle process (i.e. technology, platform, system, product, application, and production design authority).
  • Lead an engineering organization, which has the expertise to design, develop and certify products in the aircraft hydraulic markets.
  • Organizes and coordinates various functions throughout the company to meet organizational objectives.
  • May provide support, strategic direction and technical proposals for systems, products or services.
  • May act as senior engineering management contact for the projects including key vendor and customer relationships.
  • Technical ‘conscience’ for the company for hydraulics products. This includes ownership of quality and adherence to our development processes.
  • Provide the leadership, training and mentoring required for engineering staff career development.
  • Manages capital expenditures and departmental budget.
  • May participate as a member of the Engineering Council, to ensure collaboration for technology leverage and engineering function standardization.

 Education or Formal Training

  • 4 year technical/science degree required
  • Masters, Ph.D. Degree in Science or International equivalent preferred
  • Masters in Business administration or International equivalent preferred
  • Greenbelt or Blackbelt experience preferred

 Experience Required

  • 10 years of increasing level of responsibility within Aerospace Hydraulics.
  • 5 years leading a comprehensive engineering organization.
  • Lean experience preferred
