Plant Manager

DESCRIPTION:
The Plant Manager plans, directs and controls all activities of the plant to accomplish budgeted financial objectives and customer requirements.  Responsible for driving manufacturing excellence in support of long and short term objectives and strategies.

Major Functions and Scope:

  • Develops and executes long and short term objectives for the Plant consistent with corporate guidelines and expectations.
    • Sets a vision for the plant, incorporating corporate approved expectations and objectives as well as plant initiatives to enhance productivity and balance between technical and social systems.
  • Directs and guides the tactical activities of the plant with respect to engineering, manufacturing, human resources, maintenance and safety to maximize growth and productivity.
  • Establishes goals and metrics to drive improvement and monitors key metrics in order to refine activities as needed to ensure efficient operation, high quality standards, customer satisfaction and maximum profitability.
  • Champion’s clear channels of communication and coordination with and between various functional areas, peers, direct reports, supervisors, customers, external technical resources, the community and government agencies associated with or affected by the plant.
  • Builds and manages an effective team through sound hiring decisions, motivation and continual evaluation, development and coaching.
  • Leads by example that safety is a fundamental responsibility of all employees.
  • Fosters a culture where extraordinary efforts and achievements are recognized and rewarded at all levels of the organization.
  • Oversees implementation of manufacturing schedules, QC and Preventative Maintenance programs and production standards.
  • Establishes, maintains and analyzes budgets, records, and other controls to keep costs at a minimum and consistent with efficient operations.
  • Cultivates and strengthens a culture of accountability at all levels.
  • Drives continuous improvement by benchmarking best practices and implementing initiatives that promote the achievement of world class processes and results.
  • Engages team members at all levels of the organization to be involved in the efficient and safe production of quality product.
  • Reviews the financial and purchasing performance of the plant and takes appropriate corrective actions when deviations occur.
  • Supports company affirmative action plans and goals.

Education and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or Material Science required
  • Graduate degree preferred.  
  • Knowledge of heat treat processing and ISO quality standards required.
  • Knowledge of general business practices and basic cost accounting principles.

Experience:  

  • Requires 8 or more years experience in manufacturing. 
  • Prior plant management experience.
  • Experience with continuous (24 hour) operations.
  • Experience in dealing with all levels of management and with resolving customer issues.

Competencies:

  • Core competencies include strong communication and interpersonal skills, listening skills, organization, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to plan, schedule, relate ideas, and coordinate priorities.
  • Good computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations.
