Quality Manager

DESCRIPTION:
Position Purpose
This position reports to the Site Manager. The purpose of this position is to coordinate, support, and integrate quality assurance activities in some or all of the following areas:  quality management systems, customer quality interface, process change control, and process control.  Develop and maintain quality systems to meet business objectives and customer expectations.  Develops appropriate quality metrics to evaluate progress to the strategic goal.

Essential Functions

  • Represent the organization to customers, regulatory bodies or potential customers through presentation and communication of the quality management systems process direction and performance.
  • Key point of contact with customers and regulatory bodies for quality issues: drives effective organization containment and corrective action processes to support product or quality system failures.
  • Ability to lead and implement the strategy for the quality management systems and gain support from cross-functional key stakeholders from within the organization.
  • Stay abreast of current quality and regulatory trends and methodologies in the applicable industry.
  • Possesses ownership to drive solutions that cross site and organization boundaries.
  • Champions continuous improvement with Six Sigma/Lean tools.
  • Acts as the customer/regulatory quality advocate within organization.
  • Accountable for the quality technical aspects of problem solving, systems implementation and validation for projects and services.
  • Report out customer and internal quality metrics to management and other business segments.  Drives corrective action to facilitate improvements.
  • Provide direct leadership to department staff by leading, managing, supporting and coaching members ensuring continual development of competencies.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate organization structure to support the quality function.
  • Plan and manage resources to profit plan and capital plan.

Other Functions

  • Drives and supports toward a unified quality system.
  • Collaborates with functions outside the organization.

  • Ability to integrate and apply solutions for quality performance and continual improvement, both breakthrough and systematic throughout the organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop a vision and strategy for the Quality Management System and gain active alignment support for that strategy by all organization stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop others.
  • Solid fundamental understanding of quality management systems, process approach, ISO 9001:2000
  • Solid understanding of organizational structure ensuring engagement and active support of functions and members within the business system as necessary to achieve business goals related to quality.
  • Solid understanding of statistical concepts and methods to ensure appropriate application and analysis of data.
  • Is highly organized and plans effectively.
  • Displays a strong ability to analyze issues and solve problems.
  • Effectively applies rational, data driven solutions to difficult situations.
  • Demonstrates a firm commitment to quality.

Education/Formal Training

  • Bachelor of Science in management or a technical field required.
  • Masters of Science in management or technical field, or International equivalent, preferred.
  • Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • Nationally recognized quality certification is desired (e.g. American Society of Quality Certification (ASQ)).

Experience

  • 8 years of quality engineering or operations management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years of quality management experience desired.
